Capua – Dioxin levels in the air detected near the former refugee camp of Capua, the scene of a violent fire last June 1st, are back below safety limits. This was reported by Arpac, the regional agency for environmental protection of the Campania, which released the results of the latest sampling carried out on 2 and 3 June.
In the surveys following the fire, technicians had detected worrying levels of dioxins and other toxic substances, with concentrations exceeding the reference limits. However, the situation now seems to have stabilized: according to what was certified by Arpac, "the sum of the concentrations of dioxins, furans and polychlorinated biphenyls dispersed in the air" was found to be lower than the guideline values adopted by the scientific community.
The first sampling had already been carried out in the hours immediately following the fire, while the new data refer to a later phase, once the emergency had subsided. The surveys were conducted near the burned area, which is located in the area of the former refugee settlement, which has been abandoned for some time.
Attention remains high on the area, often at the center of reports of fires and environmental degradation. Arpac will continue monitoring in the coming days to verify the possible persistence of critical issues.

It is important that the ARPA pay attention to toxic substances in the air, but it is also necessary that people know more about the risks and how to protect themselves, especially after such a serious fire with such high values.
