Naples: Student hit on crosswalk in serious condition; manhunt underway for hit-and-run driver

Naples – A dramatic accident occurred late yesterday evening in Naples. Around 23:00 PM, a 24-year-old university student, originally from Lecce, was struck by a car while crossing the road on Via Anton Dohrn, near the Via Caracciolo waterfront.

The driver of the vehicle, instead of stopping to provide first aid, pressed the accelerator and disappeared without a trace.

The young woman was with a group of friends and was crossing the street from the seafront toward the Villa Comunale. As she reached the center of the road, she was struck head-on by the car traveling at high speed toward Piazza della Repubblica. The impact was violent, throwing her to the pavement before the terrified eyes of those present.

Rescue efforts and manhunt

Emergency medical personnel responded immediately, stabilizing the 24-year-old on the scene and then rushing her to the Ospedale del Mare, where she is now hospitalized in serious condition. Officers from the Naples Local Police Road Accident Unit arrived at the scene to conduct a technical assessment and collect statements from those present.

Law enforcement is combing through surveillance camera footage in the area to determine the license plate and identity of the hit-and-run driver.
