Naples. 118 doctors strike: the prefect asks for the protest to be revoked.
SA meeting chaired by the Prefecture of Naples was held today in telematic mode prefect of Naples, Marco Valentini, with the general director for Health Protection of the Campania Region, Antonio Postiglione, the general directors of the ASL Napoli 1, Ciro Verdoliva, of the ASL Napoli 2, Antonio d'Amore and of the ASL Napoli 3, Gennaro Sosto, together with the trade unions of the medical staff.
The meeting was called as part of the procedures provided for by the law on strikes in essential public services, following the declaration of strike by doctors of the 118 territorial emergency service, proclaimed by the trade unions for next March 26, due to the failure to resolve the ongoing dispute with the Campania Region regarding the reduction of the hourly allowance previously provided for doctors.
Valentini, in underlining the serious moment of national health emergency in which the right to health of citizens must be the object of particular protection, formally invited the representatives of the trade union organizations to desist from the intention of abstaining from services, urging, at the same time, the representatives of the Region to promptly continue all initiatives of dialogue and discussion.

The dispute of the 118 doctors has "further worsened following the arrival of requests for the restitution of large sums to doctors contracted by 118 to be paid in a single solution". This is stated in a letter from 16 doctors' unions to the prefect of Naples, Marco Valentini. A letter in which the unions underline that "without the indication of certain times, for the resolution of the dispute, repeatedly culpably postponed, and without a suspension of the administrative acts carried out in an arbitrary manner, we will be forced to further raise the level of protest indicating a state of agitation of the Public Health". In relation to the matter, 118 has already declared a strike on March 26. In the letter, the unions point out that the repayment of the sums, even in a single solution, are "serious administrative acts that occur without there having been any ruling from the Court of Auditors which has started, as far as we know, only the preliminary investigation and without any attention being paid to the heavy emotional burden that is weighing on professionals already affected by the pandemic emergency, the serious lack of staff and the reductions in allowances already implemented".
“It almost seems – they underline again – that they want to proceed with the dismantling of the public territorial emergency system, opening up scenarios of wild privatization and demedicalization of the service with the inevitable compromise of the essential levels of assistance in the sector already dramatically tested by territorial assistance”.
