Napoli. A night guard service with the possibility of closing some access gates during the night hours. These are the hypotheses discussed during the round table dedicated to the implementation of interventions for the recovery, enhancement and safety of the Umberto gallery in Naples.
The meeting was chaired by the prefect of Naples, Claudio Palomba and the mayor Gaetano Manfredi. The situation of the Galleria, a historic monumental site in Naples, especially at night (with kids playing soccer or many homeless people seeking shelter there), has long been the center of controversy.
The night guard service should be activated for a trial period of six months with expenses paid by the condominiums and with the contribution support of the entrepreneurs of the Aicast association and the Bank of Italy. The project for the implementation and adaptation of the video surveillance of the site was also presented.
The meeting was attended by the councilor for Urban Planning, Laura Lieto, the Municipal Police and Legality, Antonio De Iesu, the mayor's chief of staff, Maria Grazia Falciatore, the superintendent of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, Luigi La Rocca, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Ciro Fiola, the president of Aicast, Liliana Langella, the vice president of Confcommercio, Luigi Muto, a representative of the Campania Molise Telecommunications Zone, Andrea Affinito, and the administrators of some of the condominiums that insist on the Galleria.
During the session, "in which the usefulness of the project was unanimously recognized, especially in terms of the enhancement and recovery of the site", "the progress of the projects underway for the architectural recovery of the floor and the vault was examined. In particular, the Municipality has ensured the start of emergency interventions on the latter in order to eliminate infiltrations".
The mayor, it is written in a note, "confirmed the active commitment of the Administration on their respective competences. In fact, inspections will be carried out shortly on the skylight to verify the work to be carried out". The project for the implementation and adaptation of video surveillance will be carried out by the Campania Molise Telecommunications Zone. All those involved, it is written in the note from the Prefecture, "shared the need to formalize their respective commitments in a memorandum of understanding that will be examined during the next week, to be signed by the month of May".
