35 eco-sustainable buoys will allow mooring in an otherwise prohibited area and without causing damage to the seabed and the Posidonia. The buoy field of the'Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area in Le Mortelle, in the splendid setting of Marina del Cantone in Massa Lubrense.
The service will be active throughout the summer. The buoys, Manta Ray technology, have zero impact, they penetrate the seabed without causing damage. In this way, boats will be able to stop in the area in complete safety and without using the anchor.
At the same time, the Marine Park launched a message on social media to protect Posidonia, the marine plant that is fundamental to the ecosystem.
“Do not drop anchor on the Posidonia. In the last decades the Posidonia beds have reduced all over the world. Mediterraneor even and above all because of the anchors.
“When pulled up, the anchor ploughs the seabed and tears up the marine plant - the appeal of the Punta Campanella MPA - One hectare of Posidonia can host up to 350 different species. A single square meter of meadow can generate 20 liters of oxygen per day and absorb 65 grams of carbon per year.
It offers a very important contribution in the fight against climate change as well as mitigating coastal erosion. It is essential to protect it for the future of all".
In the last few days, buoys have also been installed to prevent anchoring close to the coast in an area of Marina del Canton, between the Pila Nova rock and the mooring field.
They will serve to avoid anchoring a few meters from the free beach and to guarantee safety for swimmers and protection of the seabed. The leaders of the Marine Park are satisfied, the President Lucio Cacace and the Director Alberico Simioli.
“We will soon place deterrent buoys near Crapolla to prevent boats from entering and anchoring in front of the fjord, zone B of the Marine Protected Area. The goal is to make bathing and navigation safe, to reconcile enjoyment with the protection of the seabed and compliance with the Park regulations”.
