Naples. “It is no longer tolerable that episodes of violence and damage, like the one at the emergency room in Torre del Greco, continue to occur, whether due to structural deficiencies, staff deficiencies, or the summer heat.
We firmly condemn all episodes of violence against health workers and security personnel, who are only doing their duty with few means and inadequate resources.
The situation in the emergency rooms is serious and is common to many company structures, in particular for the hospitals of Torre del Greco, Castellammare di Stabia, Sorrento and Nola, without a comprehensive strategy it will no longer be possible to find the right countermeasures".
This is the position taken by five trade unions (Fp Cgil, Cisl Fp, Uilfpl, Fials, Nursing Up) and the RSU of the ASL Napoli 3 Sud following the attack suffered by some 118 health workers and the damage to the emergency room of the Maresca hospital in Torre del Greco by a patient suffering from mental disorders waiting to receive a consultation.
“The overall organization of the hospital network to deal with the Covid-19 epidemiological emergency – the unions continue – must necessarily find new strategies to deal with the increase in infections in Campania, albeit with fewer hospitalizations.
Above all, emergency rooms need to be strengthened with doctors, nurses and healthcare workers, activities for the results of swabs must be arranged to have acceptable response times, reception activities must be strengthened, information for those who go to emergency rooms must be strengthened also through a computer system that can be consulted by any companion or family member”.
