“Someone wanted Ugo to die that night, because he was chased and killed. The carabiniere? It’s not up to me to judge, we will respect the sentences”.
Ugo Russo's father said this in response to journalists' questions this morning outside the Naples Courthouse where the preliminary hearing took place in the trial in which the carabiniere who shot and killed him on the night between February 29 and March 2020, 15, in Naples, while the XNUMX-year-old was trying to steal his watch, is the accused.
In relation to the mural that commemorates Ugo, made in the Spanish Quarters, for which the Council of State, yesterday, ordered the removal, Vincenzo Russo reiterated that the sentences must be respected: "We will respect this one too - he said - even if for us it is an injustice. But we will not remain silent when they come to cover it up".
When asked what the state of mind of the whole family was, Ugo's father replied that they have already lost "since day one". "Our state of mind? - Vincenzo Russo reiterated - For three years we have slept little at night, we cry, they attack us, and I don't know why.
My son was wrong that night, we have always admitted it, but you have read the documents of the Prosecutor's Office and the documents speak for themselves. They have worked hard, and this pleases us, we have faith in the judiciary.
My truth? He was on the run, he would have been arrested, he would have ended up in juvenile detention and he would have paid for what he was doing. Maybe today my son was in prison and we could have opened our eyes to the path he was taking.”
