A former municipal administrator of Casandrino was the victim of a Camorra raid on the evening of Thursday 29 August.
The gunmen opened fire on his car and home, also hitting an outbuilding where some people were celebrating a birthday. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The episode - as Il Mattino reports - occurred in via Italo Svevo, a dead-end street off via Marinaro. A few minutes later, a stolen van was set on fire in via don Reverendo Antonio Migliaccio. The officers from the Frattamaggiore police station confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen in Nola a few hours earlier.
For investigators, the raid and the fire are closely linked. The modus operandi is typical of organized crime, which in these areas is often traced back to the Camorra.
Investigations are underway to ascertain the identity of those responsible and the motive for the attack. Investigators do not rule out that the former municipal administrator may have been targeted for reasons related to his political activity, or that the hitmen had the wrong target.
Another aspect to consider is the return in full force of the Verde clan, the historic Camorra gang of Sant'Antimo, which for some time has been trying to extend its influence to Casandrino.
