Six higher education institutions for a total of 2160 students and 170 teachers involved, fourteen days of screenings - seven in the summer and as many in the fall - an original documentary film made for the occasion, readings, creative writing workshops, shows, a workshop held during the latest edition of Campania Libri Festival, a collective art exhibition with the participation of 22 artists: these are the numbers of Pier Paolo Pasolini: his "100" faces, a project conceived by Giffoni on the occasion of the centenary of Pasolini's birth with the support of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers - Mission structure for the valorization of national anniversaries and the participatory dimension of the new generations.
Inside the Giffoni Multimedia Valley, in Giffoni Valle Piana (SA) the final event of the project in the presence of a large representation of the schools that were an active part of the initiative.
“I'm happy to be here with you – said Claudio Gubitosi speaking in the room – for the closing of this event that you have loved so much. It is an opportunity to remind myself how important Pasolini was for me, for my education and, therefore, also Giffoni, an idea that I have been involved in for 54 years. Imagine what this reality could have been at the beginning of the 70s. It was the era of dreams. Today everything is different because, thanks to new technologies, it is possible to enter ever-different worlds. It was not like that then.
Cinema was truly the only tool to observe the world beyond the mountains that surround us. In those years I worked to ensure that more and more films could arrive in Giffoni. It wasn't easy at all. Then I discovered the existence of film libraries and I myself moved from photography to cinematography. I made two films and even today, watching them again, I understand how strong Paolini's influence was for those early works of mine.
This is why I say that this figure had a great impact on my existence. And this is why I am truly proud that my team has carried out this project with the support of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. I would also like to thank the schools and in particular the teachers who participated in the many days, the many activities. They did it with a great charge of energy, which I still perceive today, in this beautiful room”.
