He escapes from house arrest and steals from a shop in the historic center. It happened in Napoli, where the police arrested a 39-year-old.
Last night, Upgsp officers intervened in Vico San Domenico Maggiore following a report of a theft inside a commercial establishment by a man who had driven away on a scooter.
The police officers, while passing through Piazza Dante, crossed paths with the man who, at the sight of them, accelerated his scooter to escape. A chase ensued during which the 39-year-old, after losing control of the motorcycle, abandoned the vehicle in an attempt to escape on foot but was caught and, after a fight, stopped by the officers in Piazza Bellini.
The 39-year-old was found in possession of a 19cm long switchblade, 135 euros and various burglary tools.
The police officers, with the support of a patrol car from the Decumani Police Station, ascertained, also by viewing images from the commercial establishment's video surveillance systems, that the suspect had entered the premises through a window and then taken away some money.
The 39-year-old from Caserta, currently under house arrest for property crimes, was arrested for aggravated theft, assault, resisting a public official and evasion, and reported for unjustified possession of altered keys or lock picks and for carrying weapons or objects capable of causing offence. The stolen goods were returned to the owner of the business.
