The lucky winner of a €2 million scratch card, Ricardo GT, was embroiled in a legal dispute on January 15, when he appeared in court to face embezzlement charges brought by his two colleagues and (former) friends, Giovanni S. and Christian C., who believe they are entitled to a share of the winnings.
The situation dates back to 2021, when Ricardo, a Brazilian tiler, first won 800 thousand euros with a ticket in Modena and then, on February 22, two million euros in Garda.
However, the sum of two million euros is still under seizure following the complaint of the two involved, who claim to have bought the winning ticket together and to have established a division agreement, as reported by Corriere della Sera.
Giovanni S., 51, resident in Brescia, and Christian C., 62, resident in Verona, accused Ricardo of having betrayed them.
They claim to have agreed to split the winnings in three parts and even contacted a notary to seal the deal, claiming that they only learned from the press that “Ricardo betrayed us and at the last moment tried to cash in the entire huge loot himself”.
