"Bach & Vivaldi" Concert at Domus Ars: February 22 for the De tasto et De Chorda Festival
The De tasto et De Chorda festival of rare musical works presents the "Bach & Vivaldi" concert on February 22nd at the Domus Ars. This year, the festival features new works under the title "Flatus Vocis," inspired by a classic text by philologist Corrado Bologna.
The first concert will feature the reinterpretation of Bach's pieces for organ, taken from Antonio Vivaldi's concerto grossi and those of the young Johann Ernst, Prince of Saxe-Weimar. Carlo Maria Barile and Angelo Trancone will perform, fully respecting the original form and structure, transforming these pieces into true masterpieces of the organ repertoire.
The series includes four concerts, showcasing wind instruments from the Renaissance to the Baroque. In addition to the chamber organ, the Baroque bassoon, the natural trumpet, and even the bagpipe will be featured. The concerts will also feature flutes, lutes, and guitars, exploring the elegant dances of the Middle Ages and the early Renaissance.
Bach's transcription of Vivaldi's concertos was a consolidated practice in his artistic career. His transcriptions are genuine reworkings, incorporating substantial changes to create more compact structures and greater thematic concentration. In this way, Vivaldi's clear Italianate structures take on a typically "Flemish" hue in Bach's reinterpretation.
