Once again, homophobic violence is taking place in the streets of Naples and precisely on the main street of Scampia, around 19pm two days ago.
Simone, a 23 year old, reported the attack to Pride Radio. “I had just left Conad to buy an Easter egg. Two guys on a scooter approached me. I lived 20 minutes of pure terror,” the victim said.
The attackers started with verbal insults, then moved on to the facts with spitting and cigarette butts put out on him. Simone reacted by threatening to film them, thus obtaining the end of the nightmare.
“I told them I would film them, so they would get into serious trouble with the law. I am ready to report them. I can no longer accept this state of affairs”, he said determinedly. This is not the first homophobic attack suffered by Simone, but it is certainly the most violent. However, he does not intend to remain silent and has decided to report the incident.
The support of Arcigay Naples
The support of the Arcigay Napoli association was immediate: "Our lawyer is at your complete disposal. We must fight these scoundrels. This was yet another vile episode with a homophobic background, which was also very violent, because it involved cigarettes put out on you and spitting. We will do everything in our power to obtain justice", the president declared Antonello Sannino.
Solidarity from MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli
“The homophobic, despicable and cowardly attack that took place last Friday in Scampia against a 23-year-old demonstrates how much work still needs to be done for human, social and cultural growth in our city.
What happened is cruel and unacceptable and I hope that the two people responsible for the attack are immediately identified and severely condemned. My full solidarity goes to the victim who had the courage to report and, I hope, the support of the entire city. In the face of so much violence and ignorance, no one should turn a blind eye”. This is the message from the member of the Green Left Alliance, Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
