The invasion of wild boars in Campania is causing serious damage to agriculture, with losses estimated at over 4 million euros in the province of Caserta. For this reason, Coldiretti Caserta has proposed to the Territorial Hunting Area (ATC) an immediate action plan to combat the uncontrolled proliferation of these wild animals.
A toll-free number for reporting
Among the proposals put forward by Coldiretti Caserta is the establishment of a toll-free number to allow farmers to promptly report the presence of wild boars and the damage suffered by their crops.
Selectors for the containment of wild boars
The association also proposes the activation of a group of expert selectors who can intervene in the areas most affected by the presence of wild boars to contain their population.
Crop damage and safety risks
“Wild boars are devastating cultivated fields, vineyards, olive groves and chestnut groves, causing huge economic damage to agricultural entrepreneurs,” reports Giuseppe Miselli, director of Coldiretti Caserta. “In addition to the economic damage, there is also a risk to people's safety, with wild boars also roaming in urban areas and which can represent a danger to anyone who comes across them.”
An urgent intervention to save agriculture
“Urgent and concrete intervention by the competent authorities is needed to stop this emergency,” concludes Miselli. “We can no longer wait for yet another season of damage to crops. We must protect agriculture, a driving sector for the local economy, and guarantee the safety of citizens.”
Coldiretti Caserta's requests:
Establishment of a toll-free number for reporting wild boars and crop damage
Activation of a group of selectors for the containment of wild boars
Targeted interventions in the areas most affected by the presence of wild boars
Maximum attention to crop protection and citizen safety
The objective of Coldiretti Caserta is to find concrete and shared solutions to combat the proliferation of wild boars and safeguard agriculture and the safety of the territory.
