African anticyclone brings hottest week of summer
Article Key Points
Meteorologists predict a steady rise in temperatures, with peaks exceeding 40°C in several areas of the country.
The hottest days will be Thursday 18 and Friday 19 July, when the anticyclone will reach its peak. Starting today, July 15, 12 cities will be marked with the red dot, the highest alert level, for heat waves.
Among these, Ancona, Bologna, Campobasso, Florence, Frosinone, Latina, Perugia, Pescara, Rieti, Rome, Trieste and Viterbo. Palermo will join them on Wednesday 17 July, which will become the hottest city in Italy in this first half of the week.
In the North, the highest temperatures will be recorded in the Northeast, with peaks of 37-38°C in Ferrara and 35-36°C in Bologna, Rovigo, Padua and Trieste. In the Center, the hottest cities will be Florence, Rome and Terni, with peaks of 38-39°C and possible peaks of 40°C in Rome, which in this period last year recorded its record heat.
Temperatures above 40° in Sicily, Sardinia, Puglia and Basilicata
In the South, however, the hottest temperatures will be recorded, with 40°C already measured in Sicily and Sardinia. Similar values are also expected in Puglia (Taranto and Foggia) and Basilicata (province of Matera), while in the rest of the South temperatures will settle between 35 and 37°C.
In addition to the intense heat, we will also have to deal with humidity, which will make the climate even more muggy, especially in the evening hours. In fact, much of Italy is preparing to experience tropical nights, with minimum temperatures that will not fall below 20°C.
Let's get ready for a fiery week: pay attention to hydration, avoid physical efforts during the hottest hours and pay attention to the most fragile.
