A state police operation concluded yesterday afternoon with the arrest of a 45-year-old Finnish man who was wanted internationally. The man was the subject of a European arrest warrant issued by the Swedish authorities for serious crimes, including kidnapping, unlawful restraint and hostage-taking.
The intervention took place at a hotel in the area of Capodichino, where the facility's staff had reported a customer who refused to provide the identity documents needed for registration. The officers from the Secondigliano police station, who arrived on the scene, attempted to identify the man, but he managed to escape by climbing down from a window.
A search note was immediately issued from the operations room, with the descriptions of the fugitive. Thanks to the promptness and coordination of the agents of the General Prevention and Public Rescue Office, the 45-year-old was tracked down and stopped shortly after in Viale Fulco Ruffo di Calabria.
Subsequent investigations confirmed the presence of the European arrest warrant issued against him. The man was then arrested and placed at the disposal of the competent authorities, pending extradition procedures to Sweden.
