The mayor of Salerno, Vincenzo Napoli, has signed a special ordinance for the Christmas holidays, aimed at ensuring safety and decorum in the city. From December 24 to January 7, the sale of fireworks, firecrackers, mortars and explosive materials of any kind will be prohibited, even those considered free sale or declassified.
The ban will be in force from 8:00 a.m. on December 24, 2023 to 8:00 a.m. on January 7, 2024, and will apply to both street vendors and those in physical stores. The ordinance concerns every public space or space open to the public. As ironically specified in the text, "the caps of sparkling wine”, to underline the festive nature of the rule, which does not intend to penalize Christmas traditions, but to protect them from dangerous uses.
The Municipal Police will be charged with intensifying checks, with the aim of curbing the illegal sale of explosive articles and verifying compliance with the new rules. Fines ranging from a minimum of 25 euros to a maximum of 500 euros are foreseen for transgressors.
