More blood in the prison Airola, where yesterday afternoon a violent fight broke out between inmates, with serious consequences for a Penitentiary Police officer.
It all happened in the canteen of the institute, around lunchtime. About ten inmates, divided into two opposing factions, allegedly came to blows over trivial matters. The situation quickly degenerated, with chairs thrown in the air, tables overturned and furnishings destroyed.
In an attempt to quell the brawl, a Penitentiary Police officer was injured in the knee. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was found to have injuries that would heal in seven days.
The episode has triggered a harsh reaction from SAPPE, the Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police, which denounces “the climate of tension that is now unsustainable” inside the prison. “The Management – thunder the unionists – seems to have lost control of the situation, satisfying every request of the inmates”.
SAPPE calls for “a radical change of management” and immediate interventions to guarantee the safety of officers and inmates. “It is no longer tolerable – they conclude – that similar events occur with this frequency. Drastic measures are needed to restore order and discipline in the Airola prison”.
