The mother of Cecilia Sala, the journalist arrested in Iran, shared her experiences after a meeting with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Palazzo Chigi. Elisabetta Vernoni said: “This meeting did me good, it helped me, I needed to look each other in the eye, even between mothers, on things like this…”.
In the recent phone call with his daughter, Vernoni expressed his desire to receive more comforting news. He said: “I would have preferred more reassuring news from her and instead the questions I asked… I asked her, she wasn’t telling me, I asked her if she has a clean pillow to rest her head on and she said to me 'Mom, I don’t have a pillow, nor a mattress'”.
