A single charger for mobile phones, tablets and cameras is becoming a reality in the European Union. Since December 28, all electronic devices must be equipped with a USB-C charging port, thanks to a law promoted by the EU to reduce electronic waste and encourage more sustainable choices by consumers.
The new rules, approved by the European Parliament in October 2022, mean that consumers will no longer need a charger every time they buy a new device. The rules apply to a wide range of devices, regardless of manufacturer, including new mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, earphones and headphones, portable games consoles, portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation systems, headphones and laptops that charge via cable and operate at up to 100 watts.
Starting April 28, 2026, the USB-C port requirement will also be extended to laptops.

The new law on the use of a single charger is a great idea to reduce waste and make things easier for everyone. I hope other countries will follow this example, but there are those who disagree.
