The prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, has ordered a ban on the sale of tickets to residents of the province of Verona for the Napoli-Verona match, scheduled for Sunday 12 January at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.
The decision was taken on the advice of the Police Headquarters Napoli and following the evaluations of the Committee for the analysis of safety at sporting events (CASMS)The latter, with a resolution issued last 30th December, reported the risk of possible serious disturbances to public order, suggesting the adoption of restrictive measures to prevent tensions and disorders.
The measure aims to ensure that the match takes place in a calm and safe atmosphere, avoiding the repetition of episodes of violence that in the past have involved the fans of the two teams. The police will still be employed in a control service to monitor the stadium area and the main access points to the city.

The decision of the prefect of Naples seems right to me to avoid problems. However, I do not know if it is the best solution, because the fans should be able to go without problems. Maybe there would be other ways.
I agree that safety is important, but prohibiting Verona residents from buying tickets does not solve the problems. There are other ways to ensure public order without excluding anyone.
This measure seems a bit extreme and perhaps punishes everyone for the fault of a few. I hope that the authorities will find a balance between security and freedom of participation in sporting events.
