Bellona (CE), 23 January 2025 – Locked in a small rusty box, without food or care, and visibly malnourished: this is the dramatic condition in which an Italian Corso dog was found by the Carabinieri in the municipality of Bellona, in the Caserta area.
The owner, a 45-year-old man, was reported for animal cruelty. The intervention was triggered yesterday afternoon thanks to the promptness of the lieutenant Iannarella, commander of the Vitulazio Station, engaged in a control service on the territory. Crossing an isolated road, the soldier and his colleague were attracted by the desperate howls of the dog, who seemed to be insistently asking for help.
Following the cries, the carabinieri discovered a fenced area of a few square meters, delimited by rusty metal fences, where the young Cane Corso had been abandoned. The animal's conditions were critical: malnourished, visibly exhausted and forced to live in an environment devoid of any hygienic-sanitary requirements.
Without wasting any time, the military requested the intervention of the veterinary service of theASL of Caserta. Once on site, the health workers verified the presence of the microchip and provided first aid to the animal, saving it from a condition of serious suffering. Thanks to the information collected through the microchip, the carabinieri quickly identified the dog's owner.
The 45 year old, resident of Bellona, was found to be responsible for the abandonment and the terrible conditions in which the animal was found. The man was reported at liberty and will have to answer for the crime of mistreatment of animals, provided for by the penal code. After the timely intervention, the dog was transferred to a suitable facility that will take care of him, providing him with care and assistance. The authorities have ensured that the animal is followed in an appropriate environment, far from the mistreatment suffered.
