A new episode of violence has hit the Benevento prison, where a prison police officer was attacked by an inmate.
In the afternoon, a thirty-year-old North African man attempted to injure the officer using a crude awl. The inmate, already known for similar behavior, continues to cause disturbances within the prison, sparking debate about his continued incarceration.
GovernmentenutoVincenzo Santoriello of the CON.SI.PE. union believes that the Government must address the management of non-EU prisoners, whose propensity to not respect prison rules leads to frequent critical events.
Luigi Castaldo, vice president of the same union, highlights the risks to staff safety and proposes the adoption of non-lethal control devices, such as tasers. Both are calling for effective measures to ensure that dangerous inmates are expatriated.
Campania Regional Secretary Tommaso De Lia and Deputy Secretary Pina Razzano emphasized the need to immediately transfer the inmate to prevent further serious crimes. The timely intervention of other officers prevented further harm to the attacked staff.

It is really worrying that there are so many problems of violence inside the prisons. It is not the first time that we hear similar news and it seems that the Government is not taking effective measures to solve the situation. Prisoners must be treated fairly but also with safety for everyone.
