Gennaro Petrucci, 73 years old, husband of Silvana Fucito (a well-known figure in the anti-racketeering movement) and indicated as the alleged instigator of the murder of engineer Salvatore Coppola, will appear in court as a witness safe during the trial underway at the Assize Court of Naples.
The request to guarantee visual anonymity during the deposition, advanced by his lawyer Maria Di Cesare, was accepted during a hearing held in room 114 of the New Palace of Justice. Petrucci, currently a collaborator of justice, will be heard on February 12 at 10:XNUMX a.m., at the request of the Public Prosecutor Sergio Raimondi, who considers him a key witness.
The details of the crime
Coppola, 66, was shot dead on March 12, 2024 in the parking lot of a supermarket on Via Protopisani in Naples. According to investigations by the Flying Squad and the Naples DDA, the perpetrator was Mario De Simone, 64, arrested on charges of having acted on behalf of Petrucci in exchange for 20.000 euros. The motive for the crime is linked to a dispute over the ownership of a luxury villa in Portici (NA).
The procedural path
Petrucci, although he is a defendant in the same proceeding, will intervene as an assisted witness, protected by a screen as happens in the maxi-mafia trials. On the same day, February 12, a hearing is also scheduled with a judicial police officer who will reconstruct the crime scene. In the meantime, on January 20, Petrucci made new statements to investigators, whose reports were filed with the prosecutor's office and would include significant revelations about the case.
The evidence under consideration
The court also ordered the transcription of wiretaps (recorded in prison) and telephone conversations related to the case. The appointed expert will have to complete the analysis by the end of May 2024, providing additional elements to the judiciary.
