Naples – The Naples Flying Squad has put an end to the violent criminal career of a group of six young men who specialized in robbing young people and tourists who frequent the city’s nightlife squares.
Article Key Points
The officers have in fact executed an order for the application of precautionary measures against six people, aged between 24 and 34, believed to be responsible for serious episodes of violence and robbery which occurred in the city centre.
The order, issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Naples at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, provides for one of the suspects to be held in prison, for three to be under house arrest, while the other two have been subjected respectively to the obligation to remain at home and the obligation to report to the judicial police.
The suspects are charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault, while the 24-year-old who received the most severe measure will also have to answer for aggravated attempted murder.
The investigations began after two episodes of violence recorded in recent months. The first dates back to the night of April 28, 2024, near Piazza Bellini, when a young man was brutally attacked by a group of six people after trying to stop a thief who had stolen his girlfriend's cell phone. The victim suffered injuries that were expected to heal in three days.
The second episode, of particular seriousness, occurred on the evening of August 4th near Piazza De Nicola. A Dutch tourist and his girlfriend were chased for hundreds of meters by some individuals on two scooters and then attacked with kicks and punches in an attempt to rob them. The tourist also received a stab wound to the chest, suffering a “traumatic pneumothorax of the right hemithorax from a stab wound,” which required hospitalization for over 40 days.
The investigations, conducted by Flying Squad and by the Decumani Police Station, were based on the analysis of video surveillance images, license plate reading systems and the testimonies collected, allowing them to trace the identity of the attackers and ascertain their responsibility in both episodes.
Two of the suspects, initially untraceable, later showed up at the police station
The arrests were carried out at the homes of the suspects, with the exception of two of them - recipients of the measures requiring them to remain at home and to report to the judicial police - who were initially untraceable but subsequently presented themselves spontaneously to the Police Headquarters.
