Torre Annunziata – A race against time, three men in uniform who do not give up and fifteen minutes of cardiac massage that gave back to a woman the most precious gift: life.
Article Key Points
It happened eleven days ago, on the morning of February 3, in a shopping center in Torre Annunziata, where a woman, on her way to work, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
It was early in the morning, few customers around, many shopkeepers still distracted behind the cash registers. The woman, an employee in a pet store, had just crossed the threshold of the shop when her heart stopped beating. She collapsed to the ground, lifeless, without a cry.
The Carabinieri patrol was called by passers-by
Luckily, a patrol of the Carabinieri from the radiomobile section was passing nearby. A passerby, noticing the dramatic scene, attracted the attention of the military, waving his arms to ask for help. The three carabinieri, without hesitation, followed the man and reached the woman, still unconscious.
While one of them called 118, the other two immediately began to perform cardiac massage. For fifteen very long minutes, the three took turns without stopping, compressing the woman's chest with determination, hoping to rekindle that heartbeat that seemed lost. One of them, fresh from a recent first aid course - part of a larger training project promoted by the Legion Carabinieri “Campania” – guided the intervention with precision.
Thanks to the intervention of the military, the woman's heart started beating again.
The signs of recovery arrived, timid but unmistakable: the woman's heart began to beat again, rekindling a hope that seemed to have vanished. When the 118 paramedics arrived on the scene, the woman was rushed to the operating room.
After days of pharmacological coma and intensive care, the woman managed to overcome the crisis. The doctors explained to the police that, without those fifteen minutes of cardiac massage, the story would have had a tragic outcome.
Today, eleven days later, the woman is out of danger and wanted to meet her guardian angels. The emotion was uncontrollable: between tears of gratitude, she asked the three carabinieri to take a photo together, to fix in her memory those faces that gave her life back.
"Without them, I wouldn't have made it," he confessed, holding the hands of his rescuers. A story that reminds us how, even in the darkest moments, solidarity and courage can make a difference.
