A 22-year-old man, Marco Mameli, originally from Ilbono, lost his life following a stab wound to the chest during an argument that occurred at a carnival party in Bari Sardo, a municipality in eastern Sardinia with a population of around 4.000.

The murder occurred in via Santa Cecilia, in the historic center of Bari Sardo. Mameli was celebrating Carnival with some friends, after the traditional parade of allegorical floats. Around 23 p.m., during a brawl involving a group of local youths, a participant pulled out a knife and inflicted the fatal blow on the 22-year-old. In addition to emergency services, the police, the magistrate on duty and the coroner intervened at the scene of the accident.
Appeals and consequences for the community
The mayor of Ilbono, Giampietro Murru, expressed his condolences through a message on social media: “It is not possible to die at 22 years old in a carnival party, goodbye Marco, the whole town of Ilbono is crying for your tragic passing”.
Following the accident, the Municipality of Bari Sardo cancelled the parade of floats scheduled for Tuesday, and the nearby municipality of Jerzu decided to cancel the event scheduled for today.
The investigation into the murder is being conducted by the Carabinieri of the Lanusei company and the police station, already working to identify the person responsible for the crime.
The local community is experiencing hours of anguish, while interest in the story is growing at a regional level.

This is truly tragic news, there should not be violence especially during holidays like carnival. This boy was only 22 years old and had his life ahead of him, I hope justice is done for him and his family.
