Cesa, an autistic child was allegedly left dirty in class after his needs, in a primary school in Cesa, in the province of Caserta. But the contours of the story are not entirely clear.
While on the one hand, the family claims that the child was not assisted, on the other hand the mayor of Cesa, who spoke with the operator who has always followed the child, denies that this happened.
The complaint bounced from a social page and was taken up by the National Coordination of Teachers of the Human Rights Discipline, which expressed deep indignation for what it calls "yet another case of violation of the fundamental rights of a student with disabilities".
The mayor of the Caserta municipality, Enzo Guida, immediately started investigations to verify the incident, stating that "the assistance in question is the responsibility of the school, but nevertheless in order to strengthen this service, we have, through the operators of the Gol program, made other people available to the Institute for this purpose". "I thus had the opportunity to discuss - he explains - with the school director Pietro Corvino and with the operator who is responsible for assisting children.
The latter told me that he assists the students with a certain periodicity and consistency. At 12.30:XNUMX, when the child was picked up by his aunt, it was verified that there was a need to clean him.
The operator immediately offered to do it, but the aunt claimed that she would do it later, as there was a rush to leave school for other needs." "The next day, however, the child's family members - adds Guida - went to the school to complain about the fact that he had been left uncleaned for a long time.
The operator, in the presence of the school principal, the secretary, the teachers, reiterated that the check had taken place shortly before 12.30:12.30 and the need to clean him had not been identified. A need, however, that was then identified at XNUMX:XNUMX when he left. It is reiterated that the family did not want the operator to clean the child, because they were eager to leave. Knowing the way this operator operates, the care, the commitment in carrying out these tasks, I have no reason to doubt his version of events" concludes the mayor.
The national coordination intervened after seeing the news on some online sites, stating that this is not an isolated incident, and listed some, such as the one that occurred in Montalto Uffugo (Cosenza), where a 10-year-old autistic child was left dirty in class after an accident, and his mother was prevented from cleaning him inside the school, or in Avellino, where a 3-year-old girl was left dirty and in this case too the mother was denied the right to change her at school.
And again in Lecce, where a disabled child was left alone in the bathroom for 40 minutes, waiting for her mother to arrive, due to the absence of authorized personnel to assist her, or in Cagliari, where a 19-year-old student in a wheelchair was unable to go to the bathroom due to the absence of a trained school assistant; his mother was called to assist him, and his classmates protested the situation. The National Coordination of Teachers of the Human Rights Discipline calls for the adoption of immediate measures to ensure the presence of trained and adequate personnel in all schools, in order to assist students with disabilities in their primary needs.
