Punk and Academic Chaos: The University of Salerno Ignites the City with a Rebellious Event That Challenges the Norms Three days of pure cultural fire swept Salerno, with 32 keynote speeches that mixed academic reflections, electronic beats and distorted guitars in a riot of punk subculture. The 2025 edition of “Feeling/No Feelings”, organized by professors Alfonso Amendola, Linda Barone and Giorgio Sica, confirmed the University of Salerno as a true hotbed of intellectual revolts, uniting international guests and a diverse audience in an explosive mix of critical analysis and unbridled fun. Held in evocative locations such as Palazzo Fruscione and the Chiesa dei Morticelli, the free event attracted students, researchers and the curious, proving that punk is not dead, but is kicking harder than ever.
The Synergy Between Academy and Rebellion
Academic interventions explored the rebellious trajectories of punk and post-punk in the fields of film, music, television and politics, with professors and young scholars who transformed the campus into an arena of countercurrent ideas. Not a simple gathering, but a cultural festival that fused historical memory, experimentation and performance, creating a bridge between teaching and pure sonic chaos.
"We are extremely satisfied with the public response and the cultural impact generated by this edition which represented, in fact, a significant evolution in the path of Feeling/No Feelings, consolidating our goal of creating a permanent critical laboratory in which punk is not only an object of study, but a living stimulus for divergent and contemporary thought. The extraordinary participation, the quality of the interventions and the synergy with the territory have exceeded all expectations. It was a precious opportunity to create authentic connections between generations, disciplines and different cultural visions. The enthusiasm encountered already motivates us to work energetically on the next edition, to continue to break patterns and imagine the future from a lateral but very lucid perspective”, declared the organizers, highlighting an event that had dramatically exceeded expectations.
Guests and Underground Vibrations
A touch of genius came from the strong bond with the Salerno area, thanks to the collaboration with the Tempi Moderni association and the “Racconti del Contemporaneo” exhibition. The “Lampi di genio” exhibition by Philippe Halsman hosted the long-awaited meeting with Irvine Welsh, author of the cult Trainspotting, who did not limit himself to literary chatter. On the key evening, the Scotsman took to the console at the Chiesa dei Morticelli for an exclusive DJ set, mixing 90s electronic music, experimental rock, acid house and original tracks from his label, with the support of the Blam collective and its architects involved in urban regeneration. The result? An immersion in rhythm and culture that made the ancient naves vibrate, combining high education and alternative languages in a cocktail that definitely upset the status quo. The wild success of “Feeling/No Feelings” 2025 proves that underground culture is not only alive, but is also making waves, mixing theory and practice in an event that has united academia and citizens in a collective cry against boredom.
