Article Key Points
The most significant earthquake occurred at 12:07 p.m., reaching a magnitude of 4.4.
Despite the significant seismic activity, the first surveys carried out by technicians on the Neapolitan territory falling within the Phlegraean area have not highlighted significant damage. Consequently, schools will be regularly open tomorrow in the Municipality of Naples.
However, the municipal administration has activated a telephone number (0815627027, active 24 hours a day) for anyone who needs to report risk situations or request inspections following the recent bradyseismic shocks.
The Welfare offices are also operational to provide support to the population, with social workers of the Municipality active from 8 to 12 at the headquarters in via Acate. During the night hours, the Social Operations Center (Cos) is available and can be activated by telephone in case of need.
Line 2 of the Naples Metro resumes traffic
After the precautionary interruption due to the magnitude 4.4 earthquake, rail traffic on Line 2 of the Naples Metro resumed regularly starting at 18:00. The reactivation occurred following the checks required by safety regulations on the condition of the lines, carried out by technicians from Rete Ferroviaria Italiana.
Pozzuoli closes schools “until express revocation”
In Pozzuoli, the mayor Louis Manzoni signed an ordinance that provides for the precautionary suspension of teaching activities in schools of all levels, both public and private, starting today, May 13, 2025, and "until expressly revoked".
The measure also orders the immediate suspension of sports activities in school gyms given in concession to sports clubs, in order to ascertain any damage resulting from the tremors. “I personally ordered the immediate intervention of municipal technicians to check all school buildings.
Schools are an absolute priority: no one will return to the classroom without the necessary safety checks – the mayor wrote on social media – I demanded maximum accuracy and timeliness. I myself will communicate the results of the checks and decide, with a sense of responsibility, the next steps.
The safety of our children comes first." A further ordinance from the mayor has ordered the precautionary closure, also starting today and until expressly revoked, of the municipal cemetery, the cultural center of Palazzo Toledo and the municipal nursery school.
Schools closed in Quarto tomorrow too
The Municipality of Quarto has also decided to close all schools of all levels for tomorrow, Wednesday, May 14. “The decision,” explains Mayor Antonio Sabino, “was taken to allow for analysis and static checks on school buildings, following the strong tremors and seismic swarm recorded in the last few hours. The safety of students and school staff is the priority.”
The situation in the Campi Flegrei area remains under close observation by the Vesuvius Observatory and the competent authorities, who continue to monitor the evolution of the seismic swarm and carry out checks on the territory to guarantee the safety of the population.
