Napoli – Tragedy this morning at the Secondigliano prison, where a 59-year-old prison police officer committed suicide by shooting himself with his service pistol in the facility's parking lot, a few minutes before starting work. The man, close to retirement, leaves behind a wife and two children.
The tragedy occurred around 12:XNUMX, the time the officer was supposed to start his shift inside the penitentiary. The reasons for the act remain unknown at the moment.
«We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. We do not yet know the reasons that may have pushed the colleague to such an extreme gesture", declare Giuseppe Moretti and Ciro Auricchio, respectively president and regional secretary of the Uspp (Union of Penitentiary Police Unions).
"He was highly regarded by his colleagues and superiors for his dedication and professionalism. It is difficult to understand how a person close to retirement could decide to end it this way."
The union expressed its condolences and closeness to the officer's family, underlining once again the difficult psychological conditions in which many men and women of the penitentiary police operate.
