Naples – A progressive and reformist coalition, open to moderates, to face the next regional elections. This is the recipe outlined by Roberto Fico, president of the Guarantee Committee of the 5 Star Movement, which charts the course for the future of political alliances.
“I have always said that for the regional elections we need a broad coalition, which also includes moderates,” Fico said, underlining recent successes such as the Naples model, where the center-left alliance has governed with stability for over three years, and the victory in the recent administrative elections in Genoa.
"We have conquered a very important city like Genoa and we govern Sardinia. We are putting in a great deal of work, and this is the direction to follow."
Fico, speaking on the sidelines of a meeting, emphasized the importance of a shared project, based on "clear programmatic points" and on a strong "civic protagonism".
The watchwords, he explained, are “participation and collegiality”, with an opening to political and social forces that share the objectives of renewal and social justice. However, the president of the Guarantee Committee wanted to curb enthusiasm, specifying that immediate attention is focused on the referendums in progress: “Now let’s think about the referendums first, then we will build step by step”.
The model proposed by Fico looks with confidence to the Neapolitan experience, where the coalition led by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi has demonstrated cohesion and governing capacity, becoming a point of reference for the center-left.
The victory in Genoa and the control of the Sardinia Region reinforce the belief that an inclusive alliance, capable of uniting progressives and moderates, could be the key to consolidating consensus in view of the regional elections.
Fico's appeal comes at a crucial moment for the Five Star Movement, which is trying to reposition itself as a central force in a broader progressive field, without losing its identity. The challenge now will be to translate this vision into concrete programs and solid alliances, while the political debate heats up in view of the upcoming elections.
