Weather alert: a new disturbance is in action over Italy; fed by cold air and pushed by strong southern winds, it will cause snowfall up to the plains in the North.
The site team www.iLMeteo.it warns that in the next few hours widespread snowfall will affect the plains of Piedmont and Lombardy with accumulations at the end of the event up to 10-15cm. Widespread and abundant snow throughout the Alpine arc where 50-60cm could be deposited above 1200 meters.
But it won't just be snow that will make the news, but also rain. Heavy rain will hit the plains of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia and then also Tuscany, Lazio and Sardinia, only towards the end of the day Campania. During the day on Thursday the disturbance will move towards the Center-South, especially on the Tyrrhenian side and again with widespread showers and some thunderstorms.
In the north, after the last morning instability in the Tri-Veneto area, the weather will improve significantly, but it will be quite cold even during the day (2-3 C in Milan and Turin).
There's not even time to enjoy some sun that from Friday a new disturbed front will reach the country, mainly affecting the Center-South where heavy rains will hit Lazio, Campania, Calabria and Sicily. The snow on the Apennines will fall below 900 meters, resulting abundant.
The weather will worsen only partially in the North, especially in lower Lombardy and Emilia with snowfall at very low altitudes. Finally, during the weekend a cyclonic vortex will position itself over Central Italy causing a strong wave of bad weather in the central and southern regions, while in the North high pressure will advance.
In detail: Wednesday 8. In the north: snow in the plains of Piedmont, Lombardy, also possible in Liguria on the coasts, heavy rain elsewhere. In the center: worsening strongly in Tuscany, Lazio, Sardinia, Umbria. In the south: bad weather in Campania by evening.
Thursday 9. In the north: rain in the Triveneto with snow at low altitudes, dry elsewhere. In the center: very unstable in Tuscany, Lazio, Sardinia, Umbria with snow at 7-800 meters. In the south: bad weather in Campania, Calabria, Sicily with showers and snow at 80-1200 meters.
Friday 10. In the north: worsening in the afternoon in lower Lombardy and Emilia with snow on the hills. In the center: new phase of bad weather in most regions, snow at 800m. In the south: intense bad weather in all regions, heavy rain in Sicily. Weekend with bad weather in the South and Adriatic, improving elsewhere with sun.
