In the afternoon, a Carabinieri brigadier, Antonio Milia, 50 years old, fired shots with his service pistol at the commander, Doriano Furceri, of the military station in Asso, in the province of Como, subsequently barricading himself in the barracks.
At the moment the two soldiers are still inside the building and the conditions of the commander are unknown. There are no other Carabinieri in the operational area of the Barracks. The local territorial force and specialized departments are present on site to manage such emergency situations.
Both soldiers are married and have three children each. The brigadier had been admitted to the psychiatric department of the San Fermo della Battaglia Hospital, in the province of Como, because he suffered from psychological distress and was subsequently discharged and placed in convalescence for several months.
Judged fit for duty by a Hospital Medical Commission, he had returned to duty a few days ago and was currently on vacation.
According to initial reports, the soldier who fired the shots was a brigadier who fired several shots at his commander and barricaded himself in the station. The building is now surrounded by soldiers trying to convince him to come out.
According to some witnesses, in fact, a shot was heard first, then the screams of the wounded man and, after that, at least two more shots.
It is known that the brigadier, who had been in service in the town of Como for several years, had been admitted to the psychiatric department of the Sant'Anna Hospital in Como, discharged and placed in convalescence for several months. Deemed fit for service by a Hospital Medical Commission, again according to what has been learned, he had returned to service for a few days and was currently on vacation.
Lieutenant Furceri, on the other hand, had been transferred to Asso in February, after 17 years spent as commander of the Bellano station, on Lake Como but in the province of Lecco. The transfer had been ordered after the non-commissioned officer had been the target of insults and accusations with anonymous writings on the walls of the town since December of last year.
The messages reported an alleged love affair between the commander and more than one married woman, with their respective husbands ready to resort to violence. Another message reported an irregular work situation involving the commander's wife. The provincial command of Lecco explained that "the facts regarding the commander of the Bellano station are being examined by the judicial authorities and are also the subject of an independent investigation launched by the Carabinieri to establish the details of the matter and also to assess whether or not the requirements for the soldier to remain in his current position or for a possible transfer elsewhere exist; the facts must also be verified to protect the interested party".
Following this, the transfer to Asso was triggered. The checks in these dramatic hours aim to clarify whether the events of this evening can be linked to the accusations that determined Furceri's transfer.
