“What happened today in Napoli, where a person ran over a policeman at a roadblock, is an extremely serious incident.
Unfortunately, these are not rare events, but far too frequent, and they confirm a clear criminal mentality of those who live in absolute contempt of rules and institutions, in the belief that they can affirm their arrogant supremacy with any criminal act, not caring if this could cost the lives of others.
We wonder whether it really seems sufficient to proceed against this person for resisting and injuring a public official, when the investigations into this episode as it appears from a very initial reconstruction could lead to the outline of an attempted murder".
This is what Valter Mazzetti, Secretary General of the FSP State Police, said after what happened today in Naples, where an 18-year-old, who according to the media was already accused of attempted murder for the stabbing of a peer, was driving without a helmet and without a license and did not stop at a roadblock but, instead, ran over a soldier.
"In the meantime, we extend our solidarity to the colleague who ended up in hospital in serious conditions, in the hope that he will recover as soon as possible. At the same time - concludes Mazzetti - we return to reasoning on the serious issue of the lack of operational protocols that allow us to manage very high-risk situations like today's in a clear and safe manner.
And, above all, we continue to affirm that actions of this kind cannot and must not be tolerated, have no justification, and must lead to equally serious consequences. Thank goodness that carabiniere is still alive, but he could have not been. We have lost many, too many, on the roads”.
