The two artists will sing a medley that tells the great paradoxes of society, against the violence of all wars in the "Bennatian" style
An exceptional duo, two friends and colleagues, two generations who will sing an original anthem against the violence of all wars on the stage of the 73rd edition of the Sanremo Festival: Edoardo Bennato will be Leo Gassmann's guest on Friday 10 February, on the occasion of the cover evening in which they will perform a medley that tells the great paradoxes of society in the unique "Bennatian" style, biting and ironic: A cosa serve la guerra (taken from the album "L'uomo occidentale", 2003), L'isola che non c'è and Il Rock del Capitano Uncino (taken from the album "Sono solo canzonette", 1980).
Three songs, not ditties or fairy tales, different from each other but which have as a common thread the search for an enchanted gaze to find hope in a better future, against the concept of war and against abuses of any kind.
These are the words of Edoardo Bennato: “Leo and I sing songs and we are aware that you can’t change the world with ditties. Our goal is to draw emotions and proactive energy from the audience and give them back emotions and proactivity”.
The “pirate” of rock made in Bagnoli, a point of reference for musical and ideological nonconformism, will perform on the Sanremo stage for the second time in his artistic career: it was 2010 when, as a super guest on the third evening of the festival, he sang some of his hits, Il Rock di Capitan Uncino, Un giorno credi and an unforgettable version of È lei, and an interpretation of the wonderful song by Luigi Tenco, Ciao amore, ciao, inextricably linked to a tragic festival, that of 1967.
50 years ago his debut album Non farsi caduta le braccia, published in 1973. Now Edoardo Bennato on the stage of the Ariston Theatre to "accompany" his young friend and colleague Leo Gassmann, for whom he has a deep respect, both human and professional: “Leo and I have had a good understanding since the first moment, when, a few years ago, we met at a concert (within Imaginaction, International Video Clip Festival, ed.) in the area of the airport of Forlì. We often talk about geopolitical problems and ecology. We recently recorded a song together called Io vorrei che per te which goes: “As long as there is sun in the sky, as long as there is wind in the air, we will never remain in the dark and no engine will be turned off”. We are perfectly aware that you cannot change the world with songs; however, with Gassmann there is mutual respect, so when he invited me to participate with him in the evening of guests at the festival I gladly accepted”.
Leo Gassmann is competing at Sanremo 2023 with the song Terzo Cuore, which will be included in his new album “La Strada per Agartha”, to be released on February 24 on all digital platforms and in physical format, and which will contain “Io vorrei che per te”, a single sung by both of them and dedicated by the Neapolitan singer-songwriter to his daughter Gaia.
