The photo of Anne Frank wearing the T-shirt Napoli and a banner, black painted letters and “littorio” font to compose the writing: “You are Neapolitan, we are not!”. This is what appeared during the night in Mondragone, a town on the Domitian coast in the province of Caserta, in Piazza Mario Liberato Conte.
The shocking gesture is the response to two banners posted in the square in recent days, one with the words "Mondragone is all blue" and the other with the words "Get over it". The mayor of Mondragone Francesco Lavanga spoke of an "ignoble gesture by thoughtless people" that stained "yesterday's wonderful and orderly celebration for Napoli's mathematical victory in the Serie A football championship".
Lavanga stigmatized the use of "the face of Anne Frank, a victim of Nazi barbarity during the Second World War, in order to mock, in an absurd and despicable manner, the Neapolitan fans. This senseless gesture must be condemned without ifs or buts".
The mayor of Mondragone has announced that he has "taken steps to activate all the administrative procedures of the case, to the extent of my competence" and asks, "anyone who can provide useful information for the identification of those responsible, to communicate them to the police. Let's demonstrate that we are a responsible and above all civil community.
I, as Mayor, apologize to the victims of the Holocaust and to all the fans. Mondragone is not this, it is something else”.
