Margherita Buy will be the godmother of the thirteenth edition of the Social World Film Festival that will be held in Vico Equense, in the province of Naples, from 2 to 9 July, directed by Giuseppe Alessio Nuzzo. Winner of seven David di Donatello and eight Nastri d'argento, she is considered one of the best actresses of Italian cinema.
He will greet the public during the awards gala evening scheduled for Saturday, July 8. With his talent appreciated by the greatest directors from Moretti to Bellocchio to Tornatore, he will baptize an edition with a strong international accent.
On July 6, Oscar winner Mira Sorvino will introduce the screening of Woody Allen's “Mighty Aphrodite,” which earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, while the following day she will be in Piazza Siani – Arena Loren to receive the Golden Spike Award for Lifetime Achievement, also for her constant commitment to Amnesty International, and to sign the Wall of Fame, a monument to cinema featuring bronze autographs by great movie stars who are guests at the festival.
Another protagonist will be New York director Abel Ferrara who will present to the public his latest film “Padre Pio” with Shia Labeouf (Tuesday 4 July) and will be the guide of the new authors involved in the Young Film Factory workshop – made possible thanks to the support of Rehau which hosts the film delegations and offers a prize of 2000 euros – which will see them make a short film in 72 hours.
The opening film on Sunday 2 July will be the award-winning “La stranezza” by Roberto Andò with Toni Servillo, during an evening dedicated to the beloved series “Mare Fuori” in the presence of the cast: Serena Codato, Antonio D'Aquino, Alessandro Orrei, Francesco Panarella, Giuseppe Pirozzi, Giovanna Sannino, Clara Soccini, Maddalena Stornaiuolo. In collaboration with Rai Teche, Rai Fiction and Picomedia, all the first 36 episodes will be screened during the day in three theaters, a marathon in the presence of the protagonists who will discuss with the public the social issues covered, awaiting the arrival of the fourth season. Guests include Casa Surace, Andrea Renzi (July 4), Giacomo Rizzo, Andrea Di Maria, Antonella Stefanucci, Brunella Cacciuni, Ilaria Rossi (July 5), Abel Ferrara, The Jackal (July 6), Denise Capezza, Michele Rosiello (July 7), Maria Vera Ratti (July 8) and YouTubers Simone Paciello aka Awed (July 3) and Guglielmo Scilla aka Willwoosh (July 5). Every evening there will be a double arena with the Cloister hosting films from the Big Screen Under the Stars section – including auteur films such as “Il Sol dell'Avvenire” (7 July), and the spectacular “Super Mario Bros” (5 July) and “Minions 2” (3 July) with debates on the social issues covered – and the square which will be a moment of meeting with this year’s guests with screenings of the films “Le ragazze piangono” (2 July), “Corsa Abusiva” (3 July), “Santa Lucia” (4 July), “In fila per due” 5 July, “Ciure'”.
The International Social Cinema Festival will feature 148 works from 42 nations across all 5 continents, divided into 12 competitive and non-competitive sections, which will be judged by film professionals from the worlds of production, journalism and academia.
There are many opportunities for emerging talents, such as the European Market of Young and Independent Cinema, which will be held on Sunday 9 July, and the Young Music Academy, a workshop dedicated to young composers of film music in collaboration with the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. Every day there will be screenings of the works in competition at the Nuovo Cinema Aequa, reopened after more than 30 years thanks to the Social World Film Festival, and on the screens of Teatro Mio and the Museo del Cinema del territorio e della Penisola Sorrentina.
An edition dedicated to the magnificent Gina Lollobrigida, whose face stands out on the official 2023 poster, to whom a retrospective will be dedicated thanks to the collaboration with Rai Teche, and a photographic exhibition at the Antico Palazzo di Città entitled “The 50 Faces”. The Social World Film Festival is organized by the City of Vico Equense and supported over the years by the Ministry of Culture, the Campania Region and the Film Commission Regione Campania.
