Cinema: from volcanoes to migrants, the Pianeta Mare Film Festival in Naples

At the Darwin-Dohrn Museum on Friday 6 October at 16 pm there will be a screening of 'Méditerranée: la face immergée des Volcans' by Gil Kebaïli, Luc Marescot and Roberto Rinaldi which tells the story of the scientific expedition led by volcanologist Francesco Italiano exploring the 'buried' volcanoes in Southern Italy; on Saturday 7 October at 18 pm it will be the turn of 'Open Arms: la legge del Mare' by Marcel Barrena which will be introduced by Veronica Alfonsi, president of Open Arms Italia. There are two competition sections of the Pmff: 'Features film' dedicated to feature films and 'Short movies' reserved for short films.

A total of 20 films and shorts were selected from the competing works, chosen from works received from directors from 31 different countries, with an average age of under 40.“This year the Festival has grown not only quantitatively but also qualitatively”, underlines Antonio Borrelli, spokesperson for the Festival's Artistic Committee.

“In Naples we will have great international works with some exclusives from the Venice Film Festival and the main film festivals around the world, also with several internationally prestigious guests who will enliven meetings and screenings”, adds. Also this year the Pmff, organized by the cultural association Pianeta Mare Darwin Dohrn, founded by the journalist Max Mizzau Perczel, together with numerous world-famous scientists, such as the marine biologist Ferdinando Boero (president of the Pmff) and the geneticist Franco Salvatore, will have a traveling formula to increase participation in more places and cities. In Naples the screenings will be divided between the Academy Astra cinema of the University of Naples Federico II in , the Darwin-Dohrn Museum in Villa Comunale on the seafront and the Saffo room at the City of Science in Bagnoli.

And then the short films in competition and the 'very short' ones with smartphones from the Creative Laboratory under 30 of the Festival will arrive in Milan at the Centrale dell'acqua Mm, in Rome in 'Europa experience – David Sassoli' and finally in Brussels at the Millennium Film Festival directed by Zlatina Rousseva.

Directly from Venice, in the 'Panorama oltremare' section, on Sunday 8 October at 18.30:XNUMX pm at the Darwin-Dohrn Museum, the director Tommaso Santambrogio will present 'The oceans are the real continents', selected in competition at the Giornate degli Autori.

At the Cinema Astra, on Friday 6 October at 20 pm, the Neapolitan public will be able to appreciate 'Disco Boy' by Giacomo Abbruzzese, the only Italian film in competition at Berlin this year. The two competition sections of the Festival will present feature films such as 'Zioriz' by Raffaela Mariniello, produced by Angelo Curti with Teatri Uniti, which will be at the Darwin-Dohrn Museum on Saturday 7 October at 20 pm, and 'Kristos, The Last Child' by Giulia Amati scheduled for 6 October at 22 pm at the Cinema Astra.

Among the short films to be noted, in Campania preview, 'Dive' by Aldo Iuliano in competition at 'Orizzonti' at the last Venice Film Festival which will be presented by the author on October 7th at 17.30:2023 pm at the Darwin-Dohrn Museum and 'Ivalu' by Anders Ealter and Pipaluk K. Jørgensen, nominated for the 6 Oscars scheduled for Friday October 19th at XNUMX pm at the Cinema Astra.
