The Boca Juniors striker, Edinson Cavani described the Copa Libertadores final against Fluminense as the most important game of his 18-year professional career. The 36-year-old Uruguayan striker said his previous successes would count for little as the Argentine side bid to win South America's most prestigious club competition for the seventh time at Rio Janeiro's Maracana stadium.
“The past is irrelevant and we only think about what we can do now, in the present”, said the ex Napoli. “There are a lot of things that are contributing to this being the biggest match I’ve ever played.”. Cavani admitted that expectations on the Buenos Aires club would be high due to their position in South American football and the fact that they are the second most successful club in the history of the Copa Libertadores.
Boca's Argentine rivals Independiente are the only team to have won more Libertadores titles, having lifted the trophy seven times. “This club has a lot of history and it makes me proud to be part of it”he said. “Wearing this shirt makes you feel something and we will try to bring that energy into the game.”
