After its debut last June during the Campania Teatro Festival, the show Circus Don Chisciotte, text by Ruggero Cappuccio, directed by Antonio Latella, with Marco Cacciola and Michelangelo Dalisi, scenes by Giuseppe Stellato, returns to the Teatro Mercadante in Naples from 15 to 26 November.
Latella describes his work in a presentation note as follows: “What if time didn’t exist? What if time was just an invention of men to accept the word end? What if eternal travel was just an eternal ending a little? Two men escape from themselves to meet another self, in the places of the mind, in the places inhabited only by the word and the language. Language as the only possibility to travel in the infinite world, despite our being finite creatures. There is no servant and master, there is no intellectual and man of the people, there is only one man who knows how to be both men, both possibilities that life has given us: one through literature that becomes life, the other through life that becomes literature”. And again: “To be cultured and to be wonderfully ignorant.
Two sides of the same coin. Two lives that meet in a landfill, where the landfill can only be a great metaphor for that place that is before the beginning of that divine comedy that is life itself, a place where hope is left, because hoping no longer makes sense. I think of a place where the elderly go to read on an electronic board the distance of their last journey, but as if by magic that word will never arrive, because in the end there is no last place, it does not exist and cannot exist, because we are the place of ourselves, we are the first and last station. The greatest gift that has been given to us is the word, from the word we have made language, our eternal journey.
The most precious gift we have is the infinite multitudes that the particles (letters of the alphabet) give us by combining in infinite ways. Each letter of the alphabet is a station of our being in the world, each word a forkful of spaghetti aglio olio e peperoncino”.
