An 11-year-old boy in Alfano in Cilento in the province of Salerno. The explosion of a firecracker hit him full in the face and caused a serious trauma to his right eye from which, according to what was later ascertained by the health workers, he will no longer be able to see.
The child was immediately rescued at the site of the explosion and urgently transferred to the San Luca hospital in Vallo della Lucania where he underwent a delicate surgical operation performed by the ophthalmology team led by Dr. Olga Voto, assisted by Dr. Luigi Filippo Magno.
His eye was saved, remaining in its socket, but despite the prompt intervention of the doctors his sight was lost.
