After the broadcasts of “Natale in casa Cupiello” and “Sabato, Domenica e lunedì” in 2020 and 2021, the criticism also extends to “Non ti pago” with Sergio Castellitto, a reinterpretation of the work by Eduardo De Filippo directed by Edoardo De Angelis.
The Eduardian adaptation seems to have convinced not only the Rai1 audience but also numerous exponents of the entertainment world.

Francesco Paolantoni expressed one of the most severe criticisms in a post declaring: “Another comedycide.” In a conversation with his followers, Paolantoni clarified that he is not judging the actor but the entire operation, stating: “I don’t think that Eduardo shouldn’t be reinterpreted, on the contrary. Revisions? Maybe, but turning a perfect comedy into a dark and distressing drama is definitely not an option. Lightness, laughter (which he cared a lot about) are essential elements. Otherwise, something different would have been written”.
The criticisms of users on social media seem largely aligned with Paolantoni's thoughts. Many have highlighted some of the director's choices that do not belong to the original work, such as the talking parrot, the winged donkey or the protagonist's ballets. On the contrary, the cast, including the unforgettable Antonio Casagrande who passed away last year, has been evaluated positively.
“This version of 'Non ti Pago' is hard to watch… Castellitto's hysteria and wide-eyedness have nothing to do with the wit, the pauses, the eyes rolling, the art of the great Eduardo. Not to mention the whole context between actors, music, timing, photography, etc. Perhaps the only one to save himself is Casagrande. For those who have studied Eduardo, his characters and his works, this is a blow to the heart!”, reads one of the many critical comments.
