Italy is present with a stand at the world's leading tourism event, the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, which will take place until January 28.
The Ministry of TOURISM, ENIT, the Italian Regions and Municipalities, the Republic of San Marino and the main public and private players in the sector, including Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, Piedmont, Puglia, Veneto, the Municipality of Naples, ITA Airways and 22 companies, are taking part in this major event.
The event was opened by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. Daniela Santanchè, Minister of Tourism, who was present at the event, inaugurated the Italian stand. According to the Enit Research Office, Italy is the Spanish tourist destination of choice, as shown by the 2023 data, with an increase in Spanish visitors compared to 2022 and 2019 and a total expenditure of more than 1,7 billion euros.
According to a survey conducted in 2023, 72% of Spanish respondents who visited Italy for tourism prefer cultural holidays and 67% of them will choose Italy as their next holiday destination. In 2023, air passengers from Spain increased by 13,7% compared to 2022, with an average stay of 4 nights and in 23% of cases from 5 to 7 nights.
Santanchè stressed the importance of this fair to strengthen the historical ties between Italy and Spain, also translated in terms of tourist flows and Spanish investments in Italy. Ivana Jelinic, President and CEO of Enit, stated that Spanish tourism in Italy contributes to the economic and cultural development of the two countries and that Italy can learn a lot from the encounter with other cultures, helping to make tourism increasingly specific.
