Avellino. Another workplace tragedy claims a victim, this time in the plant Stellantis di Pratola Serra, in the province of Avellino.
Domenico Fatigati, 52, was crushed by a machine while he was performing maintenance operations. Despite rescue attempts, the 118 paramedics were unable to save him. The unions called an all-day strike, demanding greater attention to safety in the workplace. Stellantis expressed deep condolences and pledged to collaborate with the authorities to ascertain the causes of the accident.
The Avellino prosecutor's office has opened an investigation and has already collected the first testimonies. In the meantime, other serious accidents at work have occurred in other parts of Italy: in Melilli, in the Syracuse area, a worker fell from a scaffolding while in Avenza, a hamlet of Carrara, a worker was seriously injured
. The unions have been summoned by the government to discuss workplace safety, but CGIL leader Maurizio Landini has expressed concern that this could be just a formality without real involvement in decisions.
The mayor of Pratola Serra, Gerardo Galdo, and the workers of the Irpinia plant gathered outside the gates to express their grief and ask for greater attention to safety at work. Fatality cannot be accepted as a constant and concrete actions are needed to ensure a safe working environment for all.
