During his show, “The Other Half of Frida”, which was performed on Friday 18 October at the Teatro Parrocchia Sant'Agostino in Castellammare di Stabia, Dino De Angelis thus sublimated the iconic figure of the artist Frida Kahlo.
A definition, which in its brilliant surgical synthesis, appears dense with that sophisticated material of emotions and magic that Frida represents.
Moreover, De Angelis, a writer and narrator from Basilicata, already known to the people of Castellammare di Stabia for the success achieved in the city with his previous shows, reaches the hearts of the public in this way, thanks to a special combination of intimate emotional involvement and powerful dialectics.
In “The Other Half of Frida” the author has translated his narrative feeling, arousing the spectator's clear identification with the salient features of the famous and tumultuous Mexican painter.
The pulsating desire to share the stories of the past that have entered his heart, that he feels closest to, took shape when De Angelis, dominating the stage, let the audience be transported by his vibrations. In dialectically divulging the couple Frida Kahlo – Diego Rivera, their passionate love bordering on the crazy, the art and the revolution that made them so similar and so distant, their exaggerated existence.
The author also interpreted the pain, physical and emotional, felt by Frida, through the intense reading of lyrics and statements produced in her short life, excellently accompanied by the music composed - and performed on the accordion - by the musician from Castellammare di Stabia Salvatore Torregrossa in a duo with Matteo Franza, jazz trumpet and teacher at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples.
With their extraordinary performance, the two musicians created a suggestive frame to De Angelis's story. Heartbreaking notes, a vigorous composition, through which the audience internalized and reflected on the narration.
The Lucanian artist's piece was also enriched by live painting, performed during the performance by the painter Marinella Veropalumbo from Castellammare di Stabia.
The presence of the artist, like a modern Frida Kahlo, delicately symbolized the soul of the latter. After the curtain fell, Veropalumbo showed her beautiful charcoal work with the face of the Mexican painter.
New to the show, a prize for the audience kindly offered by Ottica Marilene of Castellammare di Stabia. A nice draw, made among all the stubs of the tickets sold, assigned a nice themed painting to a lucky spectator. The work, an image on forex subsequently treated with paints, represents the painting of the artist Ivan Lorenzo Frezzini, inspired by pop art and figurative art that celebrates uniqueness and inner strength.
