Rome. “The inter-parliamentary group “Southern Development, Fragile Areas and Minor Islands”, which I chair, is working to transform the South into a European hub of innovation, capable of attracting talent and investment.
With this aim, our institutional assembly, composed of 50 parliamentarians from all political forces, announced during a press conference held at the Chamber of Deputies, the establishment of a special commission, which will be coordinated by the Vice-Rector of the University of Salerno Maurizio Sibilio, which will have the task of normatively supporting fundamental sectors such as artificial intelligence, cyber security and blockchain, with a special eye on the South.
The premises are all there: according to recent data from Confindustria, the Italian macro-region where artificial intelligence is used the most is the South. Suffice it to say that companies that use at least one AI technology in Europe are about 8%, a percentage almost in line with Southern Italy, against the 6,2% of the Italian national average. Therefore, the future of our country can and must pass through the South: it is time to invest in this transformation, to believe in the potential of our universities and our startups, to transform challenges into opportunities.
Together, we can make the South the Silicon Valley Italian and to do so we are already working to write a bill that we will present to the press in January. On the table is the establishment of an integrated Inter-Ministerial Committee with the aim of strengthening investments in Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and Cyber Security, providing a special fund of 500 million euros, with a very specific clause. Namely, that 50% of the territorial investments fall in the South, in the internal areas and in the smaller islands of the country". Thus in a note the deputy Alessandro Caramiello.
