The political controversy over the Vesuvius National Park is triggered, which is currently without a leader and held hostage by the parties.
“The appointments of the presidents of the Cilento and Vesuvius National Parks respectively are held hostage by the parties that delay and argue, while a guide would be needed, immediately”, said the deputy Alessandro Caramiello, speaking yesterday at the Chamber of Deputies.
"In Campania we are witnessing yet another theatrical performance on nominations, as can be seen from the press. We are faced with political parties that are paralyzing two national parks, and in particular that of Vesuvius, since in Cilento a definitive name seems to have finally arrived.
These are extremely important parks for my region, especially the Vesuvius park which covers 13 municipalities and over 300 thousand citizens. It is a great wealth for its agri-food excellences, biodiversity.
But unfortunately – added the MP Alessandro Caramiello – as we well know, in 2017 destruction took over: there were a series of forest fires capable of razing to the ground a good part of the Mediterranean scrub of the Gran Cono, and it is literally a wound that is still open because to date it has taught us nothing, considering the delays in finding an adequate nomination”.
“Vesuvius and its surroundings still have serious critical issues, such as illegal waste dumping within the national park, a lack of control by the relevant bodies, a failure to enhance the territory, the recovery of compromised sites, adequate access to paths and trails – he added in his speech to the Chamber -.
Furthermore, these points listed had been included in a program never implemented by the region and the Park Authority, however, in light of these critical issues I think we have a great opportunity ahead: appoint the right person, choose a president who loves Vesuvius, nature and our excellences in order to relaunch an immense cultural and economic heritage".
