Naples - The Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery of the University of Naples Federico II has announced a series of ambitious projects aimed at projecting the department into the future, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence and sustainable mobility.
“Our goal is to create an increasingly attractive environment that allows students to fully experience the department,” said Ivan Gentile, director of the Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery, during the “Together for Excellence” conference. To this end, renovation and improvement interventions of the spaces are planned.
A key element of the strategy is the adoption of artificial intelligence. “We will provide paid licenses for the use of AI to teachers and technical-administrative staff, in order to optimize time, improve activity and increase free time,” Gentile explained. A bio-statistics hub is also being designed to enhance scientific research.
In a sustainability perspective, the department will invest in electric bicycles to facilitate travel between the eight buildings, about a kilometer apart. “We want to promote green mobility and increase productivity,” Gentile emphasized, recalling that the department has 110 professors and over 3800 scientific publications.
Giuseppe Longo, General Manager of the Federico II University Hospital, highlighted the company's commitment to innovation: "We are investing in surgical robotics, with three cutting-edge robots, and in diagnostics, with an AI-enabled magnetic resonance imaging system, unique in Italy. Without forgetting precision medicine, where Federico II is at the forefront."
Giovanni Esposito, president of the School of Medicine and Surgery, emphasized the importance of training: “The development of departments is essential to offer increasingly complex and innovative training”.
Antonino Esposito, student representative, praised the constant dialogue with students and illustrated the future goals of student representation.
