The Carabinieri of the Nola company were engaged in a large-scale control operation aimed at combating home burglaries, which led to the arrest of an unsuspecting person.
During the operation, a 78-year-old man living in San Paolo Bel Sito was arrested. During the search of his home, the military found a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a modified barrel and a scratched serial number. In addition to the weapon, 128 rounds of ammunition of different calibers were seized.
The investigations further revealed that the man had tampered with the electricity meter, which is why he was also reported for theft. Furthermore, 10 grams of narcotic substances including hashish and marijuana were found in the apartment, along with 16 small bags, presumably used for packaging, leading to charges of drug possession.
Investigators will proceed with in-depth ballistic tests on the weapon to determine whether it was used in bloodshed or other crimes.
